SAGE- University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School ,Calabar won the two tickets to represent Nigeria in South Korea at the 2015 SAGE WORLD CUP in August





SAGE NATIONAL ENTREPRENURSHIP EXHIBITION AND AWARDS
The 2015 SAGE National Entrepreneurship Exhibition and Awards held from the 25th -28th June, 2015 at Hotel Inter Connect ,Gwarimpa ,Abuja was a huge success .It attracted young entrepreneurs across the nation who showcased SAGE businesses, environmental and community service at the “tournament” which recognizes outstanding SAGE teams based on their effectiveness and creativity. Best SAGE teams would advance in the tournament that climaxes at the international competition tagged -SAGE World Cup in Seoul, South Korea (6th -13th August, 2015)
14 SAGE Teams were shortlisted to represent their state at the national level;

1. WIBITECH Winners SAGE Team –Winners International School ,Nkpo ,Anambra State
Project : WIBITECH Bio-gas Plant
WIBITECH is a bio-gas plant which can generate bio –gas for cooking and bio-fertilizer form disposable waste from their community.
Bio-gas project was created to help improve healthy leaving, Improve electricity, create employment and reduce global warming in their community.
The team collected cow dung from slaughter houses and food waste from different households, schools, local food joints which serves as raw waste material to produce gas .
2. Global Innovations SAGE Team –Junior Secondary School, Jikwoyi Abuja
Project: White Space Technologies Africa
Due to the recent dismal performance of students in public examination, this has been traceable to lack of books and poor reading habit in schools where the situation is worse rural communities such as Jikowyi.
From their survey out of 180 schools 6% have libraries most of which are poorly equipped.
The team set up a Computer for Schools Project. 150 used computers were donated by individuals, organizations and were refurbished to create 300,000 free offline e-libraries on different subjects and grades.
They are currently working to deploy the latest rural internet connectivity device to six schools.
The team has already placed the locations for their pilot and 1st phase roll out on Google earth map in readiness for launching out. The team is already running a pilot project on this in their school JSS Jikwoyi with over 1,000 users.
3. The Craft House SAGE Team –University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School ,Calabar
Project :CAL –BIOFUEL
Harmful gases which includes fossil fuel burning and deforestation is one of the major causes that gives an upwards push for the amount of green house gases in the atmosphere causing
global warming contributing to health problems.
The SAGE Team saw an immediate need for an alternative eco –friendly fuel, thus embarked on the production of biodiesel utilizing waste cooking oil sin their community which was branded CAL-BIOFUEL ,with the advantages of been safe to produce ,low toxicity and high bio-degradability etc.
The team created a cooking oil collection programme Tagged “Drops of Life “through this programme an environmental awareness was created to highlight the importance of used cooking oil recycling instead of disposing them indiscriminately.
As a sign of massive improvement, the venture has currently attracted numerous interested costumers and members of the Drop of Life “Programme.
4. Creative Brains SAGE Team –Government Secondary School,Garki,Abuja
Project :BEE Keeping
To the teams greatest surprise, They found out in every 100 patient, 20 were suffering from diabetics and5 being young, showing the high rate of diabetics in the world of today. The team decided to go into the production of a new brand of honey gotten from the combination of two botanical origins into a unique blend that has dark amber colour .
The team took a blood sugar level test on members of their school both teachers and students, before and after the administration of their honey, after 5week a test was conducted, they found out that for those who had elevated blood sugar level, a slight reduction was noticed and those with normal sugar level it was found out their sugar level remained constant.
Presently their honey is recommended by pharmacists and doctors from various hospitals so that patients can have access to high quality natural honey and also found in shops.

1. The Craft House SAGE Team –University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School ,Calabar CH-Tiles The team recycled broken bottles into household floor tiles, thus putting broken glass bottles into good use instead of causing environmental and health hazard. Sequel, to their involvement in research and improvement, they persuaded to conceive, design and fabricate the first ever recycling machine for the processing of waste materials such as glasses,papers,polythene into building tiles. The process of production of eco -friendly CH-Tiles : broken bottles and all types is collected and crushed into pieces and ground in the CH-Tiles Maker, mixed with paper marsh as paste and a bit of fiber glass material as binder, the blend mixture is then put in molds that are greased with waste palm oil, glazed and left to dry ,whose end product is a beautiful floor and wall tiles according to designs and color needed
2. The High Flyers SAGE Team -Government Secondary School,Gwagalada, Abuja
Oil plantation in the northern region is largely unheard of, as the conditions necessary for those palm trees to grow and produce aren’t available and was thought to be impossible to replicate , the team did the unthinkable by planting, harvesting their own palm oil palm plantation. By planting their own palm trees ,they have eliminated the huge cost for transportation which reduces their production cost thus making their price cheaper and unique.
The team went ahead to design the first unique palm oil sachet packaging in the market which makes it more attractive to customers making them the first agro –entrepreneurs to successfully introduce palm oil plantation in an arid zone and also created a product worthy of the international market .
3. The Crystalline SAGE Limited –Junior Secondary School,Garki ,Abuja
Project :The Blind Must Read’
The Team took their 2014 recycling of waste paper to tissue and serviette, exercise books business a step further to recycle used calander,hard papers and cardboard into Braille textbooks for the blind with the mission to provide educational services for the blind to enable them achieve their optimal education
and attain an independent livelihood as adults ,contributing positively the growth of our country .
4. The Brilliant SAGE Team-Federal Government College Okigwe ,Imo State
Project “Elegant Ladies Handbags”
The team discovered that fashion is a trend that requires great innovations. The team developed great interest in elegant ladies handbags; they created a programme tagged “Learn the Skill and Make the Money’ where students learn manipulative skills in order to become entrepreneurs.
Sourcing of raw materials, marketing and distribution of finished products are done at the nearby Aba market know as one of the business hubs in Nigeria .
