Photo: 25 year old Ghanaian fresh graduate reportedly joins ISIS

There are fears that this 25-year-old Ghanaian graduate Nazir Nortei Alema (pictured above) has joined international terrorist group, Islamic State in Syria. Nazir who is a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a degree in Geography and Rural Development, allegedly left Ghana this month to join the terror group.

Nazir's father, Kabiru Alema, said soon after completing his mandatory National Service in Ghana on August 2nd, Nazir sent a WhatsApp message to him saying that he was on his way to another region in Ghana on a job-related assignment.

Hours later, Nazir sent another one with a different content.
“Pray for me, for I will never forget you in my prayer and it’s my hope and prayer that we meet again if not in this world then in Jannah (paradise). I love you all. May Allah grant us understanding and guide us all to the straight path. Asalaamu alaikum. I told you a lie to please my Allah. The deception was to go do some research work in far away Prestea while the main idea was to move far away from you all to the Islamic State (IS). I know it might sound kind of crazy for you but your son really had to take this bold step to get out of the corrupt system of Ghana which has democracy first on its list.”the message read
Nazir's father says his son and other young men who are believed to have joined the terror group were part of an Islamic group on Whatsapp named “Sadaqa Train,” where they are brainwashed and all of them had extreme ideas of Islam.
“The youth who have fallen prey to the ISIS craze belong to the same whatsapp group on which they share extreme ideas about Islam.”
He says his son's friends that were also on the chat group are no where to be found now. He also added that some disturbing videos have been spotted on his son’s laptop, a clear indicator that Nazir has been sufficiently brainwashed online.

Boy,14, held several students, teacher hostage at West Virginia school

The heroic efforts of two high school teachers helped stop a 14-year-old boy from shooting several students and a faculty member that he had taken hostage at a West Virginia high school.
The boy, who is a student at Philip Barbour High School in Philippi, West Virginia, took 29 students and a teacher hostage on Tuesday and held them at gunpoint for an hour before he agreed to negotiations, let them go and surrendered to police.
The teacher held hostage reportedly blocked students from entering her classroom while a fellow teacher alerted authorities to stop the boy from becoming the gunman of a mass school shooting.

At approximately 1.15pm, the boy, who has not been identified, walked into the second floor classroom and pointed a pistol at the teacher, Superintendent Jeffrey Woofter wrote in a prepared statement released by The Exponent Telegram.
'The teacher did a miraculous job of calming the student down and maintaining order in the class,' he wrote. 'The school bell rang, and the teacher talked the student with the gun into not allowing any new students into the classroom. She met them at the door and told them not to come in.'
Woofter said that the students who were to told not to enter went across the hall to another classroom and told a second teacher they had been sent her way.

The teacher went to the first classroom to see what was happening, and when she opened the door, the boy pointed the gun at her.
She slammed the door shut and returned to her room where she called the main office, who called 911 at approximately 1.30pm.
An assistant principal put the school on lockdown and went classroom to classroom ensuring doors were closed and locked.
When state police arrived, they took positions outside the classroom and negotiators persuaded the boy release the hostages, put the gun down and surrender, Woofter said.
Students who had been held hostage were taken to the gym and met by EMTs and law enforcement officers.

'We want to thank both of the teachers involved and the students in the room for their heroic actions,' Woofter said. 'We also want to thank the entire administration, faculty, staff and student body at Philip Barbour High School for their actions in a very trying situation.'

Students elsewhere in the school were moved to a nearby football field, accounted for and sent home by school bus.
The suspect has been taken to a hospital for evaluation before being taken into custody by police. He has since been placed in a secure detention facility.
The boy was taken before Circuit Court Judge Alan D Moats at 6.55pm for an emergency preliminary hearing and will remain in holding pending confidential proceeding, Barbour County Prosecutor Leckta Poling said.
State Police Capt. Dave Reider said that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing and that he couldn't reveal if shots had been fired.
'Kids will just need to have the opportunity to process this trauma in a way that feels right for them,' Chris Schimmel, head of the West Virginia University school counseling program, told The Exponent Telegram. 'Some kids might need to talk and process, and other kids might need the structure of going to class.'
Steve Saltis was among several anxious parents who went to the school and waited outside an area cordoned off by police tape while waiting for students to be released.

Saltis said by phone that his daughter attends the school and that 'a lot' was going through his mind while he waited for her to head home.
Saltis said many students had been sitting in the school's football stadium after the school was evacuated and that he was able to talk to his daughter.
But Saltis said law enforcement officials told parents nothing while the suspect was still in the school.
Poling wouldn't specify what charges would be brought against the male student.
She said no charges had been filed as of Tuesday night but that the county is pursuing charges.
Poling said that because the case involves a juvenile, the court process would be closed. Police haven't identified the student.
Classmates of the gunman took to Twitter to speak about their emotions surrounding Tuesday's incident.
Some students and Twitter users wrote about how thankful they were that the situation was not worse. Others questioned the boy's actions and the reasoning behind those defending him on social media.

NDLEA probes Arik attendant caught with N105m cocaine

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday night stormed the headquarters of Arik Air in Ikeja Lagos following the arrest in London of a crew member of the airline for allegedly being in possession of cocaine.
The Arik crew member, identified by the anti-narcotics agency as Chika Egwu Udensi, was arrested on Monday night by operatives of the United Kingdom Border Force with 20 kilogrammes of cocaine in London.
The NDLEA agents were said to have searched Udensi’s latest Range Rover parked on the airline’s premises. Arik spokesman, Adebanji Ola, confirmed the visit by the NDLEA’s operatives.

Udensi was arrested at the London Heathrow Airport shortly after an Arik Air flight W3101 that departed from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, touched down in the UK.

2 years ago two crew members of the Arik Air were similarly nabbed by the UK Border Force in London for the same offence.

Officials of the NDLEA on Tuesday put the street value of the drug found with the suspect at £350,000 (N105m).

Arik Air on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of its cabin crew member by the UK Border Force.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, on Tuesday ordered investigation into the operations of Arik Air following the development.
The Nigerian anti-narcotics agency in a statement said that it had notified the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom of the arrest.

Giade said
“The agency will carry out full scale investigation into this case to ascertain those behind the criminal act. We shall work closely with our international collaborators on the matter. Arik Airline will be sanctioned if found wanting.
“The agency shall invoke section 25 of the NDLEA Act against the airline, which states that it shall be the duty of every commercial carrier to take reasonable precaution to ensure that its means of transport are not used in the commission of offences under this Act.
“Every commercial carrier is expected to comply with appropriate security measures at points of entry and exit in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other customs control areas, to prevent unauthorised cargo in its means of transportation.
“The law refers to the precautionary measures to include training of personnel, promotion of integrity of their personnel, submission of cargo manifests in advance, use of tamper-resistant, individually verifiable seals on containers and reporting to the agency at the earliest opportunity all suspicious circumstances relating to drug trafficking.
“Nigeria has a cordial working relationship with the United Kingdom in drug control. This has resulted to a drastic reduction in the number of arrests made in the United Kingdom from flights originating from Nigeria over the years.”

Caitlyn Jenner manslaughter case now in D.A.'s hands

LA  County prosecutors are now determining whether to file charges against Caitlyn Jenner, who was involved in a deadly chain-reaction crash on Pacific Coast Highway in February.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives on Tuesday presented the case to prosecutors that could lead to a misdemeanor manslaughter charge.
Sheriff’s Det. Richard Curry told The Times last week that Jenner was driving at an unsafe speed Feb. 7 when her Cadillac Escalade rear-ended Kim Howe’s Lexus, sending it into oncoming traffic and ultimately leading to the 69-year-old driver’s death.

Jenner was pulling an off-road vehicle on a trailer and had to suddenly slow as vehicles in front stopped. Curry said Jenner was complying with the speed limit but moving too fast for the road conditions that day. Howe died at the scene after Jenner’s SUV hit her car and sent it into the path of a Hummer coming in the opposite direction.

Typically, a single misdemeanor manslaughter charge could carry a sentence of a year in jail, though legal experts say a jail term would be unlikely.

The deadly crash near Corral Canyon Road came before Jenner announced her gender transition. At the time, she was Bruce Jenner, best known as the father figure of the Kardashian family and 1976 Olympic decathlon gold medal winner.
Jenner has called the crash a “devastating tragedy,” saying, “I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them.”

N4bn loan: Rivers panel summons ex-chairmen

The judicial commission of inquiry investigating the administration of former governor Rotimi Amaechi over the sale of assets and other matters has summoned ex-council chairmen and a former Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Chinda, to appear before it on Friday, August 28, 2015.

The commission had alleged that those invited to appear before it were involved in the purported diversion of N2bn being part of a N4bn agric loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
However, the former commissioner for agriculture had gone to the Rivers State High Court, on Tuesday, seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining the commission and the Commissioner of Police from inviting, arresting or requiring him to appear before the panel.

Following the non-appearance of Chinda and the former council chairmen at Tuesday’s sitting of the panel, the Chairman of the commission of inquiry, Justice George Omeriji, directed that they appear before the panel on August 28 or risk being arrested by the police.

Omeriji also directed that the commission’s directive summoning the former council chairmen and the ex-agric commissioner should be published in the state-owned newspaper, Nigerian Tide.
He said:

“It is very clear that all the persons mentioned above have failed to appear before this commission to give evidence or tender any document to enable the commission to come up with the truth of the matter.
“I have also considered the prayers of the counsel for the commission, urging the commission to ensure that the persons mentioned above appear before this commission.
“This commission is a disciplined commission. I have decided not to involve the police yet in the service of the summons on the persons mentioned above. The commission has decided to accept the alternative prayer of the counsel and is, hereby, making the following order:
“There shall be a publication in the Nigerian Tide, summoning all the above-mentioned persons to appear before the commission on Friday, August 28, 2015. And this publication is to be taken as adequate notice to the persons to appear before the commission on August 28, 2015,” Omeriji said.
However, the former commissioner for Agriculture, who is one of those allegedly involved in the diversion of the CBN’s Agric loan, prayed the Rivers State High Court to restrain the panel, which is the (1st respondent), and four others, from summoning, arresting and requesting him to appear before it.
Chinda, through his counsel, Mr. Ken Asuwete, also urged the court to declare that the respondents violated his constitutional right to fair hearing provided by Section 36 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 as amended.

Chinda stated:
“A declaration that the respondents had unlawfully tried, adjudged and condemned the applicant in the media from as early as 7am of Friday the 21st day of August 2015, without serving the requisite summons and all processes of complaint or memoranda as required by law.
“A declaration that the counsel to the commission deliberately failed to inform the commission that no attempt known to law was explored before the media was surreptitiously engage to publish the name of the applicant in a way and manner that has defamed his character before he is to appear before the commission.”

White House fence jumper killed by sheriff's deputy at courthouse

A man who scaled a wall of the White House 5 months ago was killed in a Pennsylvania courthouse on Tuesday after slashing a sheriff's deputy with a knife.
Curtis Smith, 33, entered the lobby of the Chester County Justice Center in West Chester shortly before noon, according to District Attorney Tom Hogan.
Gunshots rang out inside the courthouse at 201 W Market St. in West Chester, Pennsylvania around 11: 50 a.m. Tuesday after an armed man charged past metal detectors leading to a lockdown of the building.

"Curtis Smith, from Coatesville, came directly into the justice center and pulled out a knife and attacked a deputy sheriff, slashing him," District Attorney Tom Hogan said.
Another deputy then opened fire, striking Smith, said Hogan. Smith, 34, received first aid at the scene before being taken to Paoli Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
A uniformed man with a bandaged hand could be seen on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance. Hogan said that sheriff's deputy was treated for wounds to his arm and hand.

Luckily no one else was hurt.

"The sheriffs did their jobs, the lockdown went perfectly," said Hogan

Hogan identified Smith as the same man who allegedly jumped the outer perimeter of the White House back in March and was detained by Secret Service.
Smith was set to face burglary, assault and harassment charges at a preliminary hearing -- that has been continued multiple times -- in October stemming from a May domestic assault arrest, according to court records. He also pleaded guilty in late May to traffic violation.

Attorney Lewis Hannah III, who represented Smith in the domestic violence case, called his client's death "really tragic."
"He was a truck driver," Hannah said. "He worked every day, had a family, a wife, you know, you would have never have thought.

Hannah said his client was supposed to obtain counseling before the next hearing and that's why Smith went to the courthouse Tuesday. "He had no terrorist claim or anything like that," he said.
Court staff heard at least three gunshots coming from the lobby, said Sara Finneran, a retired staff support employee who was visiting her former coworkers at the time of the shooting.

Robbery suspects cut bars, escape from police cell

Two of the robbery suspects, who were arrested while they were operating on Iju Road, in the Agege area of Lagos, have escaped from the police cell.
It was learnt that 3 suspected members of the gang, who reportedly attacked and robbed a hotel and some residences of Sands Avenue, off Iju Road, had been handed over to the Pen Cinema Police Division, before two of them escaped from the cell.

It was gathered that policemen, who were on duty on the fateful day, had been arrested, while the fleeing suspects are yet to be captured.
According to reports, on Sunday, August 9, at about 2am, about 10 armed robbers, invaded the area, and robbed a hotel and some private homes and they carted away money and valuables from the hotel lodgers, workers, and other places during the operation.
It was gathered that men of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress, OPC, who were the local vigilance group in the area, however, apprehended 3 of the robbers and took them to the Pen Cinema Police Division.
It was there that the three robbery suspects, identified as Dare Drain, Akeem AK, and Lekan Student, were locked up in the cell by the policemen on duty.
It was gathered that on Wednesday evening, two of the suspects however, cut through the burglar bars in the cell, and escaped from custody.

Victims of the robbery and the OPC men, who were aggrieved by the development, were said to have been invited by policemen to the station who pacified them and assured them that the robbers would be re-arrested.
When PUNCH Metro visited Sands Avenue on Tuesday, the manager of the hotel, which was robbed, declined to give any comment.
However, one of the workers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the robbers carted away a huge amount of money and also injured the hotel’s guard.
He added that the robbers raped some of the hotel’s female workers, who had yet to resume work.
He said:
“The robbery lasted for more than an hour. We were helpless. The robbers overpowered our security guard and injured him.
“They carted away valuables. They raped some of our female workers during the operation. I was told that the OPC men later caught three of them and took them to the police station.”
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, the OPC coordinator in the area, who did not want his name in print, said they were taken aback when the police in the Pen Cinema station told them that two of the suspects escaped from the cell.
He added that the suspects, who had yet to be re-arrested, raped some of their victims during the operation, including a 13-year-old.
He said,:
“The security man at the hotel, who is our member, recognised one of the robbers and led us to his place, where he was arrested. The man confessed to taking part in the operation. His name is Dare Drain, and he was caught in the Idi-Agbon area of Ifako.
“He was the one who took the OPC men to arrest the other two. The three that were caught on Sunday were taken to the police station.
“It was on Wednesday that information got to us that Drain and Akeem have escaped from the cell. We were shocked at the development. The DPO then invited us, and pleaded with us to assist the police with information to re-arrest them, adding that the policemen on duty had been detained.
“But as we speak, we have not got them. What the police told us was that the robbers cut the burglar bars, and escaped from the cell. The robbers, apart from carting away money, also raped their victims.
“The robbers were led by Dare Drain, he and his boys had earlier come to Tarkwa Crescent, before the Sands Avenue incident.”
It was learnt from a source that the robbery suspects lurked around Oju Irin area in Agege mostly at night.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Patricia Amadin, however, said in a text message to Punch that there was no truth in the incident.

Two brothers go in public bathroom but when only one returns, father reacts immediately

A Florida mother and father learned the most horrible way possible this week why little kids should always be escorted when they use a public bathroom.
The mother, father and their two boys were dining at a McDonald’s in Jacksonville when their two sons, one 6 years of age, the other 7,  went to the bathroom together as per the “buddy system.”

Unfortunately, the system did not work. Moments later, the older boy returned to the table by himself. This troubled the boy’s parents, so his father then walked to the bathroom himself to check on his younger boy.

When the father entered the restroom, he saw a man emerge from a stall and walk out. Inside that same stall the father found his younger boy pulling up his pants.

Without a moment to lose, the father then hightailed out of McDonald’s and chased the pedophile, a 33-year-old homeless man later identified as Keith Andre Sykes, until unfortunately the suspect got away.

Police later found Sykes hiding in a dumpster and booked him on a charge of capital sexual battery. He hopefully has a very lengthy prison sentence awaiting him.

What exactly happened to the father’s boy was not immediately known, though according to Chief Tom Hackney, “It’s clear that some kind of sex crime happened.”.

For something so sickening to happen to a six-year-old boy is horrifying, though it does go to show that you should always monitor the activities of your young children.

Oshiomhole is an ingrate and a popular villa sycophant - Orubebe

Former Niger Delta minister, Godsday Orubebe has described Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole as an ingrate and popular villa sycophant following the governor's recent criticisms of the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Orubebe berated Oshiomole while speaking with newsmen in Abuja today
"Oshiomhole is an ingrate and a popular villa sycophant who is quick to switch allegiance to whomever is in power. Human memory is short. It’s unfortunate that Oshiomhole who should talk like a governor is today, biting the fingers (Jonathan) that fed him and seems to have forgotten in a hurry that he once cried around the former president for assistance and recognition"he said

Tearful Kris Jenner confronts Caitlyn Jenner on 'I Am Cait'

In Sunday's episode of I Am Cait, Kris confronted her ex-husband, Bruce Jenner, who now wears a dress and heels and calls himself, Caitlyn. Kris was upset about Caitlyn's interview in Vanity Fair- "You're sensitive and amazing to all these new people in your life, you're just not so sensitive and amazing to the family that you left behind.'
Caitlyn gives her side, responding: 'I try to do everything I can to be nice, reach out. You have to see it from my perspective, be an ally when it comes to dealing with the kids.'
Kris tells her: 'When you feel like you gave your whole life to somebody and the sum of it all was you were a distraction…'

But her angry ex-husband shuts her down, saying: 'Don't go there, this is not the issue. I was defending myself. It was a distraction from the sense of who I was, that doesn't mean I didn't love you or the kids.'
Throughout Sunday night's episode Caitlyn is shown getting into arguments with her stepchildren, first with Kim and then with Khloe Kardashian.
When Kim comes to visit she first complains about how her family had all kept their distance.
She said: 'Nobody's come out [to visit], Kourtney hasn't made a move at all, obviously Khloe hasn't come close - I feel so isolated out here. All of a sudden there's this wall that's up there.'

"I just want everybody to be happy. I love, love, love all my kids. I wish you guys were here every damn day.'

But it is not long before Caitlyn is also being criticized, firstly due to her nature and then due to what she has said about her family to Vanity Fair.
Kim said: 'You still have a little Bruce in you. I thought Caitlyn would be a little kinder. I think that there's some things that you said that you might not realise are hurtful.
'You said that Kendall and Kylie were a distraction. When they read that - I don't know that they'll quite understand that.'
The conversation then turned to Kim's manager mother, with explosive results.
Kim said: '[The interview] said, "had Kris been accepting to who I am, we still would be together" - and that is the most unfair thing in the world to say.
'You're a woman now and she is not a lesbian - she does not want to be with a woman, that's not fair to ask.'
Caitlyn defensively insisted: 'As time went on our relationship changed drastically. In my eyes it's like, "Well, I don't need him any more - I've got all the girls." I felt it in the way she treated me. She wanted me out of the house.'

Kim, insisting Caitlyn should have been thrilled and saying 'good riddance' to a relationship that 'wasn't mean to be', told her: 'If I was with someone for 25 years I would look for the positive things and try to end it on a good note.
'You said "Kris mistreated me" - it sounded like she beat the s**t out of you. You could have a little more respect.'
But Caitlyn cut her off, warning: 'I can see where you're trying to go here - don't go there.'
Kim also had a stark warning for the attention-hungry reality television personality, saying: 'You've got the fame - but you're losing your family.'
Later Caitlyn also got into a verbal sparring match with Khloe, with the latter batting away claims she had sent 'very nasty text messages,' insisting she was the only one willing to tell her stepfather what everyone else was thinking.
Khloe said: 'That makes me seem like this crazy b**ch. I'm like, I'm already a b**ch - I don't want to be the crazy and the b**ch, I want to be just the one.'
Of her texts, she told Caitlyn: 'Kim said that you said they were tough and Kim read all of them and she was like "these really weren't that tough".
'I just said "We don't care what you're doing." Meaning we don't care if you want to transition. We want to support you and be there for you.'

17 year old girl dies while trying to save a 14-year-old boy

On Wednesday, August 13th, 17-year-old Stella Kambi (left) died while trying to drag 14-year-old Bonheur Musungay from a flooded pit at Thorpe Marshes on the outskirts of Norfolk, UK. Stella’s effort was a waste as Bonheur also died. Stella’s sister Claudine, 16, who was part of the attempted rescue, luckily survived.

Stella’s parents, who arrived in the UK as refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2008, are completely devastated at the loss of their daughter.

“We will miss her so much and hope our faith will get us through. But we are very proud of her”
Engele and Daniel Aketo also revealed their daughter had successfully rescued another boy a year ago. They said Stella and Claudine had not been swimming but sunbathing on the beach next to the boy. When Bonheur got into trouble, both girls, who were strong swimmers, dived in to save him. Claudine survived but Stella was dragged under.

Stella attended City College Norwich after leaving Thorpe St Andrew High School and was studying nursing at college and wanted to be a pediatrician.

Emergency services launched a major search and rescue operation to find the pair but were unable to save them. Police and firefighters are now investigating what happened.

Detective Sergeant Sarah Knights said people should take care around open water. “Without wanting to prejudge what has happened here, I would urge people to take the utmost care around water and to be aware of hidden dangers such as fast flowing currents and underwater obstacles and weeds,” she added.

Pastor Adeboye: “The Richest Man in the World - by Femi Aribisala

Article written by Femi Aribisala. Read below
“I have houses in at least 188 countries in the world, so I am richer than Bill Gates.” (Adeboye).
Recently, a friend took me to the jewel-in-the-crown of the Redeemed Christian Church of God; a glitzy parish called “City of David” in Victoria Island, Lagos. Displayed resplendently on a wall in the church-office is a design of their current building project; a 14 storey architectural extravaganza titled “Trinity Towers.”
Is Redeemed still a church or is it now essentially a business concern? The Trinity Towers project shows the lines are now totally blurred. Jesus warns: “No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24). Nevertheless, this Tower of Babylon being built with church funds is designed both for the worship of God and for the worship of money.
The project is an appeal to crass commercialism; a blatant celebration of wealth. In this poverty-stricken Nigeria, the foundation of the building alone is expected to cost over 2 billion naira. Side-by-side with a 5,000 seat auditorium for church services are high-brow restaurants, cafeterias, indoor swimming pools, cinema halls, gymnasiums, retail shops, games arcades, lawn tennis courts, relaxation spots, and a helipad as the crowning glory. Of what relevance is all this “supermarket” in a church?
Anointing for carnality
A church-member, overwhelmed by the grandeur of it all, buttonholed me in the hallway. I did not know him from Adam, nevertheless, he held me hostage as he waxed lyrical about how the Redeemed Church was, to use his words: “taking over.” “We have already got the vice-presidency,” he said. (The vice-president of Nigeria is now a Redeemed pastor). “Next we will get the presidency,” he continued; “and then we will get DSTV;” (a South African satellite television network).
The anointing for this pride of life flows right from the top. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Church is Pastor Adeboye. A few years ago, he decided he needed a billion naira without which his “work of God” could not be done. So he confounded the Christian faith by establishing a “millionaire’s club.” To be a member, you had to hand over a million naira to him in Jesus’ name.
Thereafter, he upped the ante by calling for a “billionaire’s club.” He announced that he would be building an auditorium that can only be described as “fantabulous.” It would be a ginormous three kilometers in length and three kilometers in breadth. This project is clearly more designed to get Adeboye into the Guinness Book of World Records than it is to get the members of Redeemed into the kingdom of God.
Declared Adeboye on that occasion: “We need 1 billion naira from ten people. If you are one of them, please see my personal Secretary after we finish today.” Who are those likely to have this kind of money to give in the Nigeria of today except those who have cornered public funds? Thereafter, an announcer sought to know the members of the church who were “willing to join hands with our Father in the Lord to build a new auditorium to God’s glory.”
Vanity upon vanity
The proposed auditorium is not to the glory of God. The proposed auditorium is to the glory of Adeboye. Adeboye’s project is reminiscent of Saul’s, who built a monument to himself. (1 Samuel 15:12). Nowhere in the entire New Testament was money ever collected for putting up a building. Money was only collected for the poor. The temple of God is no longer a physical building. The temple of God is now Jesus Christ.
Pastor Adeboye is getting increasingly carried away by vanity. I have a tape of a question-and-answer session he had with his church-workers a number of years ago in which he boasted that the time would soon come when, before anybody could aspire to be president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he would first have to talk to Redeemed Church. Nothing in the scriptures can be construed as suggesting this as one of the stated objectives of Jesus Christ.
A Redeemed church-member told me of another meeting he attended captioned: “A Day Out with the G.O.” It was a dinner for financial sponsors of one of the annual “Holy Ghost Festivals.” Pastor Adeboye boasted tongue-in-cheek on that occasion that the time would soon come when the Queen of England would plead to join Redeemed in order to work as an usherette. The audience reportedly responded with wild applause and shouts of “Amen.”
Richer than Bill Gates
At the just-concluded 63rd Annual Convention of the Redeemed Church, Adeboye declared that he is now richer than Bill Gates; widely acknowledged as the richest man in the world. He said: “I have houses in at least 188 countries in the world, where we have our churches, so I am richer than Bill Gates. Each time I visit these countries, my children would be struggling and saying daddy, come and stay with me.”
These “houses” don’t belong to Adeboye; they belong to Redeemed church. Knowingly or unknowingly, Adeboye distorts the gospel. Jesus says: “All who have given up home or brothers and sisters or father and mother or children or land for me will be given a hundred times as much. They will also have eternal life.” (Matthew 19:29).
However, Jesus words are spirit. (John 6:63). Therefore, his “houses” are entirely spiritual, while Adeboye’s are physical. Jesus does not make his disciples richer than Bill Gates. Instead, he says: “God will bless you people who are poor. His kingdom belongs to you! But you rich people are in for trouble. You have already had an easy life!” (Luke 6:20/24).
Adeboye continued: “If I announce here that tomorrow morning, I need a car to travel to the new auditorium, how many cars do you think would be made available to me by you my children? Those of you that do not have a car of your own, very soon, God will give you your own cars. So, I am appealing to you to become an incurable soul winner before you leave this convention ground and your cup will overflow.”
Anathema to Christ
This is nothing but the enticing word of man’s wisdom. Believers don’t preach the gospel in order to receive cars. We do because God commands that we do so.
Jesus had neither chariots nor horses. He had no lands and houses. Indeed, he warned a prospective disciple who wanted to follow him they would not be staying at the “Sheraton Hotel:” “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” (Matthew 8:20).
Jesus does not speak like Adeboye. He says: “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master.” (Matthew 10:24-25). Jesus’ example is anathema to Adeboye’s declaration that he is now the richest man in the world.
This is the word of Jesus the Adeboyes of this age choose to ignore: “It’s terribly hard for rich people to get into the kingdom of heaven! In fact, it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into God’s kingdom.” (Matthew 19:23-24).

Catholic priest assassinated in Imo

During the weekend, a Claretian priest of the Catholic Church was murdered in Owerri, Imo state.
The priest, whose full identity could not be ascertained at press time, was an academic staff of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, he said the priest was murdered by assassins on a bush path.
Enwerem said:
“The police are suspecting that it was a clear case of assassination. The priest was gruesomely murdered along a very lonely bush path that would have led him into Port Harcourt Road.”
While noting that whatever happened to the priest might be connected with the bickering and happenings in Imo Polytechnic, Enwerem, however, wondered why the Catholic priest chose to use such a lonely bush path.

He said:
“The police are suspecting that whatever happened to the priest cannot be far from the ceaseless bickering emanating from the polytechnic.
“Again, I wonder why the priest chose to use the lonely bush path on his Toyota SUV.”
He confirmed that although the police have recovered the vehicle, no arrests had been made in connection with the crime.
The PPRO said that police patrol teams were despatched to the area as soon as the information was passed on to them.
He said:
“The youths of the community joined the police in combing the surrounding bushes. The hoodlums simply perfected and carried out their damnable act before vanishing into the thin air.”
Enwerem confirmed that the command had not only expanded its dragnet to all corners of the state, but were following all available leads.
Enwerem said: “There is the likelihood that the assassins carefully monitored the priest’s movement and laid ambush for him on his track. Honestly, it was a gruesome murder.”

Police arrest 78-year-old man for raping girl, 11

Police in Lagos have arrested a 78-year-old man, Alhaji Dauda Adebowale, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, Remilekun (not her real name).
The incident was said to have happened in Pen Cinema, in the Agege area of the state.
It was learnt that some time in June 2015, Remilekun was passing by a shop where the old man lived alone when he called to send her on an errand.

When she returned, he was said to have dragged her into the shop and raped her, threatening to kill her if she told the act to anyone.
He was said to be living alone in the shop. It was gathered that Adebowale raped her on several occasions after the first time because he had threatened her with death if she told any one.
However, trouble started for the suspect on Sunday, August 2, when Remilekun, who was reportedly sleeping beside her mother in the afternoon of the fateful day, suddenly woke up, shouting ‘penis, penis’ to the bewilerment of the mother.
The woman, who did not want her name in print, said haggard-looking Remilekun opened up to her after she pestered her.
She said:
“On that Sunday, I was ill and was sleeping. She also slept beside me. She suddenly cried out, shouting, ‘penis, penis, penis’. I was shocked. When I asked her what happened, she said it was a man on our street that had been having sex with her.
“I followed her to the man’s house. Some boys confronted him and he confessed to them. I then reported him at the Area G Police Command in Ogba and he was arrested. I took my daughter to a hospital for tests because she has become lean. The medical result showed that her vagina had been tampered with and I have given it to the police.”

The victim, a primary 2 pupil, who spoke in Yoruba, said she had lost count of the number of times the old man had raped her but that she had gotten fed up and called his bluff.
She said:
“I was passing by a shop on our street one Saturday afternoon when he called me. He was sitting outside the shop and told me to help him bring a document inside the shop. I was about to leave after I gave him the document when he dragged me inside and locked the door.
“He covered my mouth and raped me. He threatened to kill me if I told anybody. The following day, he called me again and repeated the same thing. I can’t remember how many times he had sex with me. Whenever I told him I would tell my mother, he would say I was playing with my life.
“When I could no longer bear it, I opened up to a woman in our area and she promised that she would make sure the man was evicted from the shop.
“It was few days after that my mother said she heard me shout ‘penis’ while I was asleep.”
Remilekun’s sister, Tokunbo (not her real name) said she had narrowly escaped being trapped by the suspect not knowing that her younger sister had fallen victim.
She said:
“He called me two weeks ago and told me that he liked me. He promised to take care of me if I cooperated.
“I said I did not understand and managed to run away. I told my mother when I got home and she warned me to stay off his reach.”
The suspect was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on three counts bordering on rape.
The charges read in part, “That you, Alhaji Dauda Adebowale, 78, sometime in 2015, at a shop in Pen Cinema, Agege, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did have sexual intercourse with one 11-year-old girl.
“That you, within the same period and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did sexually assault one 11-year-old girl.”

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges which, according to the police, contravene sections 137, 166 and 257 of the Criminal Law II, Vol. 44 of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. T. Elias, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties each in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till September 2, 2015, Elias ordered that the man be kept in prison custody pending the time he would be able to perfect his bail.

On Sunday a 23-year-old, identified only as Ugochukwu, was found hanging in his apartment in Festac. It was gathered that on Sunday at about 12pm, Ugochukwu’s mother, identified only as Ngozi, and his two siblings came back from church to find him hanging in the sitting room, dead.

The family members were said to have raised the alarm which brought neighbours to the scene, as everyone was taken aback at the sight of Ugochukwu’s dangling body.
The 23-year-old reportedly used a rope to hang himself from a ceiling fan.
The matter was said to have been reported at the FESTAC Police Division, and the officers reportedly came to remove the corpse.
A police source said that Ugochukwu’s relations said the deceased did not give any clue as to why he committed suicide.
He said:
“Nobody can say why he committed suicide. But two Sundays ago, they caught him mixing cement to drink. The family members had actually gone to church, and he had stayed behind. It was a nieghbour who caught him and alerted the family members.

“But all efforts made to find out from him, what went wrong reportedly proved abortive, as he refused to tell anyone anything, including his mother.
“This morning, the family members went to church again, and Ugochukwu decided to stay back. Nobody suspected anything. It was when the family members came back that they found his corpse.”
Another resident in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the corpse had been taken to the mortuary by the police.
She said:
“Ugochukwu’s father’s whereabouts are unknown, but the boy has a younger brother and an elder sister.
“The corpse has been taken to the mortuary. Since he finished secondary school, he had not been able to secure admission. He took the UTME again this year.
“Everyone knows him as someone who did not talk too much. But no one knew exactly why he committed suicide. He was not working. He was usually at home. They were staying in a room and parlour. They are an average family.”
One of Ugochukwu’s neighbours, Oluja, said:
“I am shocked that Ugochukwu has passed on. I just returned from my church, only to learn that Ugochukwu was found hanging in his apartment.
“It was the policemen from FESTAC that took his body away. Everyone in the area is still in shock.
“I know that he had been worried about his admission to the university.
“He had tried several schools, but never made it. Also, he was having a financial problem. Maybe, it is the sum of these worries that made him commit suicide. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

Oscar Pistorius to be released next week but will only leave home to attend Church

Oscar Pistorius will only be able to leave his house to go to church when he is freed from jail next week.
Oscar who is supposed to be a devout  Christian, whose faith is said to have deepened over recent months, must be accompanied on trips to attend mass.

While under “house arrest” at his uncle’s home he will be allowed few visitors, who will have to be approved by the court, and someone will have to shop for him under strict parole conditions the Sunday Mirror can reveal today.

There was an international outcry when it was revealed the Paralympic gold winner will serve just 10 months of a five-year term for killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29.

During his trial Pistorius, 28, was seen clasping rosary beads and intensively reading the book Breakthrough Prayer: The Power of Connecting with the Heart of God, by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church’s pastor Jim Cymbal.

He is since said to have been studying the Bible.
His release terms mean he will remain a prisoner in his home ahead of an appeal to have his manslaughter conviction overturned.

A mystery donor is said to have offered to help fund the bid, which could lead to a retrial.
A source on the Pistorius legal team said he has been told his release date will either be August 21, 22 or 23.

The source added:
“The appeal court can’t send him back to prison, they can only order a retrial. Is it impossible? No. Is it likely, also no.”
His team say the appeal is based only on a legal issue and nothing to do with the State’s initial version that he wanted to kill Reeva and that he has an uncontrollable temper.

Houseboy injures spine while peeping at madam bathing

A 26-year-old domestic worker, Ubong Etu Nbomang, injured his spine while peeping at his female boss while she was having her bath and he has since been hospitalised at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State, after the accident.
Reports claim that the houseboy allegedly made holes around the bathroom door, through which he peeped at his boss whenever she had a shower.
It is further reported that Nbomang had climbed on a platform to have a better view of his boss who is in her 30s.
A female friend to Nbomang’s boss, was said to have walked into the sitting room but there was no one there,so when she heard the sound of dropping water, she approached her friend’s bathroom out of curiosity, only to find the young man peeping.
The boss’s friend, said as Nbomang was peeping, he held his private organ.
She said she shouted at him: “Nbomang, are you peeping at your madam?”
Nbomang, jumped off where he was and slipped on the wet tiled floor when he heard the visitor’s voice.
The unsuspecting boss, who was shocked by her worker’s groans, was said to have rushed out of the bathroom half-naked.
Her friend said
“I said to her: ‘So, you are not aware he has been here watching you as you were busy having your bath? I met him peeping, after asking for who was in the house without any response. I have been here for more than 15 minutes now without him knowing.”’
While she talked to her friend, Nbomang who was still groaning in pains, asked his boss to forgive him and take him to hospital.
“Out of pity, the madam called her driver to take Nbomang to a hospital, while she later joined them at the hospital,” her friend added.
His boss confirmed that she was going to sack him.
She said"
“Before now, I used to see him looking at me but I didn’t think otherwise because I saw it as nothing. It was when he was confessing that I got to know that he was the one that bore tiny holes on my door, which until this incident I never knew of.”
Nbomang, who spoke from his hospital bed, pleaded:
“Help me beg my madam, na devil work. Na my madam beauty deceive me.”
