The senate says it is yet to receive the ministerial list from the presidency. Chairman of the Senate adhoc committee on publicity, Dino Melaye made this known to National assembly correspondence after the end of today's sitting
"I want to announce we are still waiting for the ministerial list from the president I want to advise there is no need for agitation. September expires 12 midnight today and I want to assure Nigerians that as soon as we get possession of the list, we will communicate to them.
I also want to assure Nigerians that we will attend to the ministerial list expeditiously but diligently. It is not going to be business as usual. We are going to properly screen the nominees and only those who meet the constitutional and moral requirements will be cleared. We want Nigerians not to be agitated. September expires 12 midnight. The doors of the senate are opened 24 hours"he said

2015 Youth Peace Conference.

Godfrey Okoye University is at it again!
The Annual 2015 Youth Peace Conference is here and it promises to be educative, with this year's team as "EXPLORING THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF PEACE"

Venue: Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Arena,
Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu

Date: Monday, 5th October, 2015
Time: 9.00 am
The senate this morning began its sitting without senate president Bukola Saraki reading the much awaited ministerial list. The tradition in the senate has always been that any communication from the President is read before the commencement of proper legislative business but that did not happen as Senator Bukola went straight into legislative matters.

The minority leader of the senate Godswill Apakbio observed the abnormal and immediately raised a point of order.
“The President had promised to announce his ministerial nominees today and the Senate President has finished reading the days announcements without it, why?,” Akpabio said.
The senate president however did not reply him. Senate leader, Bala Ibn Na'Allah said the legislative day had not elapsed and so more everyone should be patient. The house is still in session.

Stop condemning homosexuals, they don’t deserve it – Catholic Bishops tell Nigerians

The Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria, CBCN has appealed to Nigerians, especially Nigerian media to stop condemning homosexuals and Lesbians in Nigeria. The bishops stated this in an article titled “Still on Same-Sex Union and the Stand of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria”, which was shared by the group’s director of social communication, Chris Anyanwu.

According to the article, the bishops welcomed the Nigerian government's anti-gay law but they do not seek the punishment or jailing of persons who err but to help them unto salvation.

The article reads in part
“There is certainly an obsession by some journalists about ‘severe punishment of gays or lesbians’ and they try to twist the Bishops’ statements to articulate their views. Nigerian Catholic bishops are very responsible pastors who do not seek the punishment or jailing of persons who err, but to help them unto salvation. In wrongly reading the letter of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in January 2015 to President Goodluck Jonathan, some international organizations mischievously reduced the CBCN position to advocating severe punishment of gays or lesbians with long prison terms. What the CBCN supported, blessed and commended in their letter of 21st January, 2015 to former President Goodluck Jonathan was because the Nigerian government upheld the dignity and sanctity of marriage even in the face of all sorts of pressure. When, therefore, the federal government resisted the attempt to impose this culture on Nigerians by legislating against ‘same-sex union’, the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria felt a sense of great relief and issued a statement to affirm government’s decision. The Archbishop Kaigama we know is a careful and pastorally-minded prelate who would not have used such words as: ‘shameful’, ‘barbaric’, ‘madness’, etc. to refer to anyone. Our stand was and is ‘no to same sex union’ and ‘no to spreading of the homosexual culture’ which can only complicate our struggle to uphold traditional/ religious/moral values in our country,” he said.

World Tourism Day- Ajuluchukwu Edechiene

My World, Our View!!!
The reality of the world being a global village is now widely defined by pixels and appreciated through billions of views. Telling one’s story is easier now with camera lenses making realities more and more real. It is why the cliché has become true that indeed "pictures tell a thousand words".
These views are the new world order, they give us a new sense of responsibility and belonging; a single picture can now resonate thousands of miles, giving rise to millions of thoughts. People travel and appreciate new places everyday by just a click, they expereinece cultures without once setting foot in a foreign land.
The market force created by this new order is enormous .With more than one billion international tourists now traveling the world each year, exchange on the world wide web is increasing. People are more attracted to what they see than what they hear, so a place with its view in circulation is more likely to attract tourists than those without one.
Tourism is has proven in the 21st century to be more than an afterthought, but a critical player in inclusive and sustainable development. For most States like Enugu which seeks a future in the tourism industry as an alternative to the oil driven economy, settling for only Events in the three components of tourism within our sphere, leaving Facilities and Attraction to suffer at the mercy of our poor planning and lack of a robust tourism policy is not only deterrent but counterproductive. We must look at the enormous opportunity created by the new Information Age. They must try as much as possible to share with the world our attractions at its raw form with policies that will encourage investors to set up Facilities.
Startups and Small businesses must be encouraged, Mass media and New media must be given more tasks to challenge them, and as a result create a better narrative for the State. We must, at the very least, be able to tell and share our own stories. To achieve this, the ministries and Government agencies directly involved with image management can become as a matter of emphasis more media friendly. They can start using our own media outlets both new media and mass media to carry out every needed publicity on tourist sites and cultural memorabilia.
I push for an urgency in developing a robust Tourism Policy that will set the agenda for the years to come. To catch up we require both a quick fix and the big bang. We need to create trends that will appeal to our audience focusing on our strengths, our endowments and our accomplishments. Yearly we deal with about twenty thousand influx of youths into our numerous higher institutions, which according to economic studies is a massive market. This huge market potential is at our service to bring to fore what will appeal to them and make them stay back after their years of study.
Brands like the Miss Coal city, Miss Enugu Tourism, Nwada Igbo Beauty Pageant and others can be encouraged to thrive as the youths are allowed to exercise their freedom of creativity. More tourism sites are encouraged to open up with media platforms positioned to maximise these entries with the best representations for country wide and optimistically, global consumption.
Current new media focusing on Enugu States activities are @ConnectEnugu@Coal_city,@Enugu_MP@80snigeria
With the right systems, we will well be on our way to being on the map of places people not only visit, but are glad both to revisit and recommend.

Total eclipse of the moon will occur at the early hours of today  September 28th, 2015. It happens to be the closest Supermoon of 2015. This September full moon is also called a Blood Moon,A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon Passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra (shadow). This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon.

NLC, TUC, others advise Senator Saraki to resign

Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, have asked the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, to resign from his position as the senate president pending the outcome of his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
They said that even though Saraki is still on trial and has not been found guilty of the allegations against him, it is morally right for him to resign his job.

President of the TUC, Mr. Bobboi Bala, in an interview with Sunday Punch on Saturday, said Saraki has a moral burden to resign.
He said, “Resignation is a moral burden on people. But if somebody feels that he will carry his cross, go to the courts and try to exonerate himself, he should be given the opportunity. But it would be too bad if at the end of the day, he is found guilty. It does not speak well of public office holders.
“In other countries, as soon as such things happen, people tender their letters of resignation. Obviously, it is a moral burden on him. We hope all politicians will begin to know that no matter how highly placed they are, one day, they will definitely have to account for their stewardship.”
Several chapters of the NLC and the TUC across the states also asked for Saraki’s resignation on Saturday.
He said: “As it were, the Senate President is sitting on a delicate seat. If it were a civilised society, he would have stepped aside to allow for a fair trial, so that he won’t allow his official position to influence the decision of the tribunal.”
Also, the Ekiti State Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Raymond Adesanmi, advised Saraki to step down from office.
He said, “If it were in other climes, he would have resigned. My advice for him would be to step down as the Senate President to answer the charges against him. If at the end of the day he is not found guilty, he could return to his position.”
Second Republic Governor of old Kaduna State and Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, Mr. Balarabe Musa, on Saturday, also urged Saraki to step down as Senate President as a show of respect for his office.
Musa said, “First of all, it depends on his conscience. If he knows that the allegations against him have anything bordering on genuineness and if he knows that he has not done anything above board, he should succumb to his conscience.
“In honour of the institution he represents, it is therefore best for him to resign in order not to undermine the position of the judge.
“If he knows that there are elements of truth in the allegations against him, he should not cost the government so much in court and thereby undermine the integrity of the bench; he should just resign. He is still young; he still has a lot of opportunities.”
