Bizarre moment Oprah Winfrey gets ambushed by man claiming to be her secret son

Oprah Winfrey was ambushed by a man claiming to be her 'secret son' after she left a recent taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The 61-year-old media mogul was photographed as she attempted to deal with the man, Calvin Mitchell, during the awkward encounter outside Colbert's New York studio.
Mitchell told Radar on Wednesday that Winfrey once asked his mother to adopt him at age 11 after he and the billionaire mogul met on the 1992 set of ABC's movie-of-the-week, There Are No Children Here.
In the interview which labelled him Oprah's 'long-lost secret son', Mitchell claimed that he has been estranged from Oprah for 20 years.
Mitchell said:
'I want to ask Oprah, "Why did you leave me? Why did you leave me?" I'm still empty. I'm still searching. I don't have closure to this. I just don't understand.'
Oprah was seen acknowledging Mitchell outside the studios following her October 15 TV appearance and pressed her hand against his chest in the familiar way she frequently does with fans - before he left his phone number with her reps for further contact.
When he was younger, Oprah would allegedly send gifts to the boy with notes addressed: 'To my son Calvin, I love you.'
She also allegedly paid for Mitchell to attend the private Christian boarding school, The Piney Woods School, in Mississippi until he dropped out at age 17.
'I was young. I made a dumb decision, and Oprah wouldn’t forgive me. I feel like what she did was wrong,' said Calvin, who later became suicidal after she 'abandoned' him.
'She told me, "Calvin, just try to work it out. You can do it. Just hang in there." She was trying to inspire me to do what was right. But even after the long pep talk she gave me, I still left.'
He added: 'I just wanted to come home, and Oprah didn't understand that.'
Oprah has always been incredibly generous in donating money to young students, having given 400 scholarships to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and the school she opened for girls in South Africa.

I didn’t get contract, oil block, anything from Jonathan- Edwin Clark, says his statement on Jonathan was misconstrued

Weeks after he was quoted as saying that former president Jonathan lacked the political will to fight corruption, notable Ijaw leader and a former Minister, Edwin Clarke has released a statement describing the media interpretation of his statement as wicked and sensationally presented.

Clarke said what he meant was that the former President was willing to fight corruption but wanted it to be done according to laid down rules. He said contrary to stories being peddled, he never got any contract, oil block or anything whatsoever from Jonathan who many believed had a father-son relationship with him. Part of the statement which he released yesterday reads;

"My statements on President Jonathan and my quitting partisan politics were wickedly, sensationally presented. It must be admitted that President Jonathan was very willing to fight corruption, but he believed that due process should and must be followed otherwise he could have initiated investigations into the scandals of Halliburton, Siemens and other serious alleged corruption charges levelled against some former Heads of State and other prominent Nigerians. Jonathan believed that there are institutions set up by the government, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commissions, EFCC, and other anti-graft agencies. Regrettably, some of those who surrounded him led by the Attorney General, Alhaji Hassan Tukur, made it impossible for these institutions to work either by stopping them from arresting offenders or prosecuting some of the cases.

Over 50 high profile corruption cases are still pending in the various courts for over eight years now. Laughable plea bargains and out of court settlements became the order of the day. It was at this juncture, when there was general complaint about the government not aggressively fighting corruption, that I addressed an open petition to the then Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapher, November 2 , 2011, complaining that most of those charged to court, especially former governors who have become senators, were still pending. He promptly replied my letter on November 3. Most of the petitions written against some prominent Nigerians, addressed to the anti-graft agencies, did not see the light of the day. Ironically, the perpetrators of these corrupt actions were the same persons who attacked Jonathan’s inability to eradicate corruption.

It is indeed most disingenuous to insinuate that my relationship with the former President was based on what benefits accrued to me. That is far from the truth as I never benefited any material thing from President Jonathan in all his six years as President. With all modesty, I am at this age contented. I state publicly therefore, that I never sought nor obtained any contract, oil block, oil lifting allocation or financial gratification from the ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, during his years of administration. Similarly, I never solicited for appointments or special placements for any of my children or relations in any government or private concern on account of my relationship with President Jonathan.

It is, therefore, ludicrous and totally ill-motived for these wicked and mischievous persons to sell to the public that my decision portends a plan to seek any special favours from President Muhammadu Buhari and his government, or to protect those gains which I acquired from Jonathan’s government, which never existed. On the contrary, my public service in this country, which spans over 60 years, had given me the opportunity to seek the political, social and economic development of my people and Nigeria in general.

I remain committed more than ever before to the economic, political and social emancipation of the people of the Niger Delta, South-South, the entire minorities and the development and unity of this great nation. My support for Goodluck Jonathan predates his presidency. It dates back to the period when he was the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. So, for people, who are thinking that I only knew Dr. Jonathan when he became the President or that I was one of his hangers on, I think there will be need to give them a little information.

“My relevance and leadership of my people as an elder statesman and a critical stakeholder in this Nigeria project far pre-dates Dr. Jonathan’s public life and presidency. I have been relevant in politics and I have served my people honestly and creditably well. I became very close to Dr. Goodluck Jonathan when he was Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. I was present in London when the late former Governor of Bayelsa State, the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, was arrested at the prompting of the Nigerian government under Olusegun Obasanjo because of his hatred for Alamieyeseigha. I had to cancel my flight to Nigeria at the London airport when news of the arrest of Alamieyeseigha was conveyed to me by Ambassador Pereware from Paris. I went with a few well meaning Nigerians to Essex where we had been informed that he was kept, but could not find him.

We went to a few other places before we were able to locate where he was. I remained in London for one week with him to put in place machineries for his bail. I recall the large heartedness of Lady Ann Iyoha, who brought out the title deed of her property in London to secure his bail and also the magnanimity of another woman from Amasoma, the home town of Chief Alamieyeseigha in Bayelsa State. I still believe that Jonathan performed creditably well in various areas. I am very proud of him and so are millions of other Nigerians. He did many good things for this nation.

Ordinarily, at my age and position in life, I should not have to justify myself in a press controversy on my voluntary decision to quit partisan politics, particularly when this personal and well intended act has come under unfair politicization of persons of mediocre temperament.”

There's a judicial gang-up against Governor Wike- media aide alleges

The Special Adviser to the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike on media and publicity, Opunabo Nko-Tariah says the nullification of Wike's April 11th election and the Supreme courts dismissal of Wike's suit against the relocation of the state election tribunal, can best be described as a judicial gang up against Wike. Nko-Tariah said this in a statement he released yesterday

"What is going on right now can best be described as judicial gang-up against Governor Wike, and the people of Rivers State. It is an affront on democracy and a blight disregard for the will of the people as evinced in the April 11 general elections. The courts are setting pernicious precedents by hinging their verdicts on inane points. Rivers people overwhelmingly gave their mandate to Governor Wike but a microscopic few want to wrest that mandate from him through the back door” the statement read

'I'm not back with him': Khloe breaks her silence over Lamar Odom reconciliation rumours

In an interview with People magazine, Khloe Kardashian spoke out for the first time about her rumoured reconciliation with estranged husband, Lamar Odom, following his hospitalization after a  drug binge at a brothel in Nevada.

Khloe said she is not getting back with Lamar yet despite holding off on divorce proceedings. She said she only did it in order to be able to make medical decisions for him while in a life-threatening condition. She said;

"I pulled back on the divorce because there is no rush for it. 'For medical decisions and a ton of other things, it's just smarter that it's put on hold. But that does not mean I'm back with Lamar. It's not even in our brains to think about us having a relationship. Only time will tell.
"'I loved him always, and I will always love him. I don't believe love is fickle. I believe when you love someone, you are allowed to love from afar. You don't have to be with that person in order to love him.'

Supreme court throws out suit filed by Wike against Rivers election tribunal

The Supreme court has thrown out a suit filed by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike against the Rivers state election tribunal. Wike had approached the apex court, asking that the action of the tribunal to relocate from Rivers state to Abuja be regarded as unconstitutional. The tribunal had relocated to Abuja due to security threats in Port Harcourt.

Delivering its judgement this morning, the 7 man panel of judges said the relocation of the tribunal from Rivers state to Abuja was constitutional and borne out of security challenges.

The apex court also added that the president of the appeal court did not err in law by ordering the relocation of the tribunal. On Saturday October 24th, the state tribunal nullified Wike's election and ordered a fresh election be conducted in 90 days.

Election tribunal upholds election of Plateau state governor

The Plateau state governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Jos, the state capital, yesterday upheld the election of the state governor, Simon Bako Lalong.

The tribunal in its ruling, struck out the petition of Gyang Pwajok of the PDP, stating that the petition lacked merit and the petitioner failed to prove that the April 11th election that produced Lalong as governor was marred with election irregularities.

The tribunal ordered the petitioner and his party, PDP to pay a fine of N50,000 to the governor, his party APC and INEC.

Woman born a man sent to all male prison fears for her safety

A transgender woman, 26 year old Tara Hudson who was born a man has been sent to an all male prison sparking fears for her safety. Tara has lived as a female all of her adult life and undergone six years of gender reconstruction surgery.
The make-up artist was jailed for 12 weeks after admitting an assault during an incident in a bar last Christmas.

But magistrates ruled Tara should serve her sentence inside a Category-B male prison because her passport says she is still a man.
Her mum condemned the move saying even doctors have confirmed she is now a woman .
Tara’s mum Jackie Brooklyn has written to the prison governor as she fears her daughter will be targeted by the male prisoners.
She said: “There’s nothing male about her, nobody would know the difference. She looks like a woman. She’s gorgeous.
“We think it’s totally outrageous. I don’t think she will cope well at all. “I just feel the men are going to go after her. It’s going to be humiliating.
“I just want to get my daughter into a safe, female environment where she belongs and will continue to fight the decision.”
Tara, who was born Aaron, admitted assault after an incident at a bar on Boxing Day 2014.
She changed her plea to guilty in September and her mum was expecting her to be put on an electronic tag and made to undergo an alcohol awareness course.

At worst she thought she would be sent to an all-women prison by the magistrates in Bath, Somerset.
But instead she was ordered to serve her time at HMP Bristol - a prison holding around 600 young adult and adult men.

Jackie revealed that Tara, who has 34EE breasts, is on a hormone replacement course and is due to undergo more surgery in the future.
She added: “She’s been through a hard time and this could set her right back.“I don’t think the magistrates have taken that into consideration.
“I fear that it is a potentially dangerous situation for her to be in and feel strongly that she would be far safer in a female environment.
“While I understand it is a complex issue, the treatment of transgender individuals by the British judicial system is one that clearly requires greater attention and thought.
“The primary focus should be the safety and wellbeing of those involved.”

My decision to resign has nothing to do with Oliseh- Emmanuel Emenike

Footballer Emmanuel Emenike who announced his retirement from the Super Eagles on October 19th, maintained that his decision to resign has nothing to do with Super Eagles coach, Oliseh
"I have absolutely nothing against the coach (Oliseh). As for me, I still remain loyal to coach Sunday Oliseh and I want to believe he understands my decision. My decision has nothing to do with the coach, who is a brave man, a technically sound person, my decision has nothing to go against his vision for the Super Eagles. Me out of the team will equally ease pressure on the coach and it will enable the younger players to fight harder for the team.
Nigeria have produced lots of talented goal poacher like Julius Aghahowa, Victor Agali, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Samuel Okwaraji, Obafemi Martins, Ike Uche, Rashidi Yekini just to mention a few. I believe with God on our side, the team will fly higher without Emenike, I will be glad to see them qualify for both the AFCON and World Cup in 2018. We have lots of good players in the team and more are still coming in to contribute, so I believe the team will get better and stronger as time goes on. The team will be great under Oliseh." 13-year-old rape victim kidnaps and beheads alleged attacker's son in India

A 13-year-old girl who claimed she was raped has been accused of taking 'revenge' on her alleged attacker - by decapitating his five-year-old son. The teenager claimed that she was assaulted in a village in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh earlier this month. Reports claim that she then kidnapped the young child of the alleged rapist while he was playing and beheaded him.

Police are said to have registered a case of murder against the teenager while the rape claim is also being investigated. According to the Times of India reporter Eram Agha, the girl said she was raped by a man called Rinku after he offered whitener - a print erasing substance that is sometimes misused as an intoxicant.

The body of the alleged attacker's son was later found wrapped in a polythene bag when dogs dragged the half burnt body out from beneath the bricks.

The girl has since been sent to a juvenile home while her alleged attacker has been 'booked' for raping a minor the Hindustan Times reports.

The Times of India quotes police officer OP Singh as saying: 'There are certain things that need to be kept in mind - the girl is a drug addict and has often got into scuffles with people over minor issue - she has got into fights for even Rs 10. 'Her mother is unwell and father a laborer, she is coming from a very poor family background. There is no family discipline either. She has been spotted consuming drugs. A fair inquiry will be done.'

Rivers election tribunal nullifies election of state House of Assembly speaker, 20 PDP lawmakers

Few days after nullifying the election of the state governor, Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja today nullified the election of the state assembly speaker, Owaji Ibami (pictured above) and 20 PDP state lawmakers. With this new development, the state Assembly has been rendered ineffective due to the reduction in the number of lawmakers. 32 lawmakers make up the state Assembly. With the nullification of 21 lawmakers, only 12 of them appear to be eligible and this is too small for the house to run effectively.

Tribunal judgement: Governor Wike returns to a rousing reception in Port Harcourt

The Special Assistant (Media ) to the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu,  says that the Rivers State Governor,  Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the ungodly political gang-up in Abuja will never compel him to abandon the mandate given to him freely by Rivers people,  stressing that the judgment of the tribunal was tantamount to a lower court overruling a superior court which is unknown to law.

Addressing thousands of his supporters who thronged the Port Harcourt International Airport on Saturday evening to welcome him back from Abuja, Governor Nyesom Wike urged them to remain peaceful as the tribunal’s judgment was simply the verdict of man which will give way to God's verdict.
Gov. Wike through his Media Special Assistant, said though by his training he is not expected to criticise a judge,  the Judgment by the the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal negated earlier judgments given by the same tribunal wherein they upheld his election in petitions filed by the Labour Party and the Social Democratic Party,  only to make a contradictory u-turn and nullify his election for the same reasons they upheld it in other petitions.
Governor Wike who was accompanied by the PDP Acting  National Chairman,  Prince Uche Secondus and Rivers leaders said: “ I have never seen a situation where a lower court overrules a higher court. The Court of Appeal has ruled on the issue of card reader which the tribunal based today’s judgment upon".

The governor cited the fact that the Electoral Act does not recognise the card reader as stated by several tribunals and the Appeal Court.

He said:
“ Nobody will intimidate me to abandon the people of Rivers State.  Justice will prevail at the end.
"I have a very good case and my lawyers are already compiling the appeal process.  Therefore,  Rivers people should remain peaceful as the good work already started will be completed by God's grace".

Rivers, Akwa-Ibom Tribunal Judgments Cannot Stand - PDP

PDP has described as unacceptable and bizarre the election tribunal verdicts in both Rivers and Akwa Ibom state. The Akwa Ibom state election petition tribunal few days ago had nullified the state governorship election in 18 Local governments and ordered a rerun. PDP's reaction is contained in a statement released this afternoon by its National Publicity secretary Olisa Metuh. Read after the cut..

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declares the verdict of the River state governorship election tribunal sitting in Abuja, which showed clear bias against Governor Nyesom Wike and the PDP, as completely bizarre, unacceptable and part of the script by the APC to manipulate the will of the people.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Saturday said indications to this spurious judgment had months ago been hinted to the PDP, which in turn, alerted the nation and the international community of the heinous plot by the APC government, to use the judiciary and various security agencies to reverse the victory of the PDP in Rivers, Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Taraba and Abia states.
“We invite Nigerians and the international community to recall various reprehensible steps taken by the APC government that culminated in this ruling as well as the ridiculous Wednesday’sverdict of the Akwa-Ibom state governorship election tribunal, also sitting in Abuja.
1. The curious and controversial relocation of the elections tribunals from their states to Abuja without any justification.
2. The constant juggling of judicial officers and members of governorship elections tribunal in PDP states, especially, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states.
3. Constant harassment of judicial and electoral officers involved in the governorship election cases in these state, using agencies of government, particularly, the Directorate of State Services (DSS) under the direct command of a known APC member, Alhaji Lawal Daura.
4. Constant threats, intimidation and coercing of witnesses against the PDP in the tribunals.
5. The recent mass transfer of security operatives, especially the DSS and police personnel that actually participated in the conduct of the elections in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom, ostensibly to frustrate the course of genuine evidences in the process.
“The bias in the judgment against the PDP in Rivers as well as Akwa-Ibom is evidenced in the contradictions inherent in the trial process of the two cases and the verdicts therein, whereby the tribunals clearly disregarded standing legal norm that a petitioner must establish prove of claims.
“Also curious is the fact that after both the petitioner and respondent agreed before the tribunal that both card reader and manual accreditations were used for the election, the tribunal still went ahead to base its decision on issues of card reader.
While it is convenient to them to use legal technicalities to deny PDP victory in Imo, Lagos, Ogun and Yobe states, the same rules are misapplied to wickedly favour APC petitioners in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom states.
“It is therefore evinced that these contradictions are direct fall-out of compromises as well as boasts by the APC of being in direct and remote control of the tribunals. If not, how can one explain the fact that while governorship elections are being upturned in PDP states, in APC states, where similar claims and facts are in contention, elections are being upheld.
“Further proof of bias by the Rivers tribunal is the fact that less than 24 hours after various counsels submitted nine written addresses and documents, the tribunal rushed its notice of judgment, an action ostensibly aimed at ambushing the pending Supreme Court action on the issue of jurisdiction regarding the relocation of the tribunal outside River state, which was due to be delivered on Tuesday.
“This is not withstanding the fact that the tribunal has up to seven days after of receipt of addresses, to deliver its judgment, but chose instead, to rush to deliver this spurious verdict even on a Saturday, a development eliciting suspicion that the judgment may have since been predetermined and written even before the commencement of the case.
“The PDP calls on all Nigerians and the international community to note this growing manipulation of the judiciary by the APC government, a factor which portends great danger to our democracy and the stability of our country.
“Nigerians would want to recall that under the PDP-led government with former President Goodluck Jonathan’s commitment to the tenets of democracy as encapsulated in the safeguard of ‘one man one vote’ and the independence of the judiciary, the PDP conceded electoral defeat in Edo, Anambra, and Imo states without attempting to collect victory through executive manipulation of the judicial process.
“The PDP restates unequivocally that this judgments must not stand in view of the prevailing inherent contradictions, in addition to the huge threat they portend to our democracy and national stability.
“Finally, the PDP charges all lovers of democracy, particularly our members in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom state not to be daunted, as these judgments will not stand the test of the law and the will of the people. We therefore reassure that the PDP will do all within the ambit of the law to resist this criminal attempt by the APC to steal and thwart the will of the people.

Wike’s removal by tribunal “deadly blow to hooliganism” – APC

Press statement from APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Saturday’s judgement of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that overturned the election of Gov. Nyesom Wike of the PDP as a deadly body blow to impunity and hooliganism. In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the judgement has shown clearly that the era of impunity and hooliganism is over, and that the only way for elections to have legitimacy is for them to be free, fair and credible.
”What has come across from this judgement is that there is no shortcut to free, fair and credible elections. This is part of the wind of change that is blowing across the land and touching all arms of government under the Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. ”Elections are about the expression of the will of the people, and they must always be free to express themselves, irrespective of what some desperate politicians may feel,” it said. APC said politicians, especially those seeking or occupying elective office, must realize that they can only derive their legitimacy from the people, and that unless they respect the wishes of the people, they will not go far.

The party hailed its governorship candidate in Rivers, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, for his doggedness and strong conviction in the pursuit of his petition against the election of Wike that was not only marred by widespread violence and electoral malfeasance, but also acknowledged to be so by local and international observers – and now by the judiciary. It urged all APC members and supporters in the state to remain peaceful, even in the face of provocation by those who are now realizing, to their chagrin, that there is always a limit to everything, including impunity and hooliganism. Robert Mugabe wins China's Nobel Peace Price

Zimbabwe's president, Robert Mugabe has been awarded the Confucius prize, China's version of the Nobel prize. The 91-year old beat off competition from Bill Gates and South Korea's president Park Geun-Hye.  A statement from the prize committee declared that Mugabe had helped to improve the welfare of his people, despite his continual use of intimidation and detainment.
'Ever since Robert Mugabe was sworn in as the president of Zimbabwe in the 1980s, he has worked hard to bring political and economic order to the country and to improve the welfare of the Zimbabwean people by overcoming hardship,' the statement said.
'If Zimbabwe did not have Mugabe as its president, the country would be facing great difficulty – even public security might be in danger,' he told The Guardian.

The Confucius prize was set up in reaction to the Nobel peace prize committee's decision to award imprisoned dissident Liu Xiaobo in 2010. Past winners of the award include Russian president, Vladimir Putin and Cuban despot Fidel Castro.

During a visit to the former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, on Wednesday by the Governor of Kano State and immediate-past Minister of Education, Mallam lbrahim Shekarau, at his residence  in Akure over his recent abduction by some gun men, Chief Falae said served as a minister without collecting any salary.

Shekarau, who arrived Falae’s residence on Wednesday evening thanked God for bringing him home safely.
He said:

Falae thanked Shekarau for his visit and said when he was Finance Minister, he was never paid a salary, but he served in the interest of and for the progress of the nation.

He said that he survived the abduction through the grace of God as the abductors attempted to kill him.
He said:
“ God has a way of doing His things, I know God just decided to spare my life, God really saved my life, they tortured me, stripped me naked and did a lot of things to me in their den, they even attempted to kill me but they did not succeed.
“I also thank God for making me to survive the ordeal because if they had killed me there, many lives would have been lost too, it would have become an ethnic war between the Yoruba and the Fulani. So I thank God that the matter did not get to that level.”
